Energy Prices (Early November 2016)

Electricity:

Uncertainty over UK and European power supplies may continue while the French safety probe and extended nuclear shutdowns continue throughout the winter, this could be made worst if demand is boosted by cold snaps or other power or gas infrastructure issues.

A “yes” vote in a Swiss referendum at the end of the November on whether to phase-out nuclear power from next year may help support prices further forward.

Gas:

National Grid has reported that “Gas demand for winter 2016/17 is expected to be lower than the 2015/16 weather-corrected demand. Lower gas exports to Ireland and Continental Europe represent the biggest differences to last year.”
